Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust Announce Caterers for Kiosk and Cafe-Restaurant 

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust announced today that Social Pantry will provide the catering operations at Pitzhanger Manor, Sir John Soane’s Grade 1 listed country home in Ealing, currently being renovated.  Social Pantry will run two venues at Pitzhanger: the kiosk in Walpole Park, to be called Pitzhanger Pantry, and the new café – Soane’s Kitchen – still being built in Soane’s original walled kitchen garden. Social Pantry is a successful independent business run by its founder/CEO Alex Head (pictured here in her Battersea café) with social values at its heart and a leading reputation for catering events and more across London.

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust announced today that Social Pantry will provide the catering operations at Pitzhanger Manor, Sir John Soane’s Grade 1 listed country home in Ealing, currently being renovated.  Social Pantry will run two venues at Pitzhanger: the kiosk in Walpole Park, to be called Pitzhanger Pantry, and the new café – Soane’s Kitchen – still being built in Soane’s original walled kitchen garden.  Both venues will serve visitors to the park and to Pitzhanger once it reopens to the public, while also drawing customers from further afield. 

Pitzhanger Pantry will re-open in early May after a very brief refurbishment following the expiry of the current lease at the end of April.  Soane’s Kitchen (the café in the walled garden) will open later in the summer, when it has been completed.  

Social Pantry was chosen in a two-stage competitive tender process managed by Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust, who are taking over operation of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery from Ealing Council.  Social Pantry is a successful independent business run by its founder/CEO Alex Head. 

Social Pantry is committed to providing fresh, seasonal and delicious food, served with style.  It already operates a café in Battersea, voted by Time Out readers as the Best Café in Battersea, 2016, as well as other catering sites around London, and has earned a leading reputation for catering events and more.  As its name suggests, social values are at the heart of Social Pantry’s approach, including local sourcing of ingredients, waste reduction, fair employment, and supporting schemes to help ex-offenders find employment. The Trust decided that Social Pantry would bring the skills, experience, enthusiasm and commitment needed to make a great success of the catering opportunities at Pitzhanger over the next five years, and to deliver two welcoming venues for customers.

Pitzhanger Manor is undergoing a major £12m process of conservation and renewal, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Ealing Council, Arts Council England and other generous donors. The building project is restoring Pitzhanger to how it was in John Soane’s day and upgrading its linked contemporary art gallery, all to create a cultural focal point for Ealing. In parallel to the building project, the Trust is developing a programme of exhibitions, education and outreach to engage participants of all ages, with a particular focus on those from disadvantaged backgrounds or with special needs. The two cafés will play a key role in supporting the charitable activities of the Trust and in particular its education and outreach programme.
