The Rickyard

The new Rickyard building gets its name from John Soane’s old cow yards and rickyards, which stood on the site in the 1800s. In 2014 the site was reopened to the public as an education centre and events space, providing groups, schools, volunteers and local people a place to meet and take part in a range of activities and events.

The new environmentally friendly building houses a café, public toilets, as well as an observtion hive, courtyard, a room for events and activities, Park Manager's office and gardening equipment storage space. The building features a clever system that collects and reuses rainwater in the toilets, as well as a flat roof that has been planted with sedum and wild flowers to provide a habitat for bees and other insects.
