An exciting opportunity for an innovative and experienced Communications Manager to build on Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust’s communications strategy and develop the profile of Sir John Soane’s Pitzhanger and its exciting programme of exhibitions and events as we rebuild and grow post-COVID. 

Pitzhanger Manor is the Grade 1 listed ‘country’ home of renowned British architect, Sir John Soane, designed and built by Soane 1800-1804 in what was then rural Ealing, West London.  Pitzhanger reopened to the public in March 2019 following a £12m HLF and ACE-supported building project to restore Soane’s original design and upgrade the adjacent Gallery so it can stage ambitious and challenging contemporary exhibitions.  Pitzhanger’s conservation and its exhibition programme (opening with an exhibition of mirror sculptures by Anish Kapoor) received widespread press coverage and very positive reviews, and attracted large visitor numbers before Pitzhanger had to close for COVID lockdown in March 2020.  Now open again and with an exciting programme of exhibitions, events and outreach, the team are rebuilding momentum and setting ambitious targets to extend and develop Pitzhanger’s audience. 

The Pitzhanger team is small and entrepreneurial with very high ambitions: it is passionate about heritage and the arts and developing Pitzhanger into a thriving and sustainable venue.  The successful candidate will be arriving at an exciting time for Pitzhanger, as the team focus on rebuilding post-COVID and engaging new, diverse audiences.  You will lead the delivery of Pitzhanger’s crucial communications strategy to raise profile and awareness of Pitzhanger and attract new visitors to our growing programme and impactful outreach activities.  You will be skilled in managing innovative and successful marketing campaigns and the effective use of digital communication to enthuse and attract a diverse audience.  You will manage the relationship with Pitzhanger’s PR agency, and be responsible for championing Pitzhanger’s brand and supporting Pitzhanger’s mission to inspire the public with great art, architecture and design.  You will be inspired by the opportunity to work in a small, entrepreneurial team where your input can have real impact.   You will have a proven track record of developing successful communications initiatives within a tight budget.  You will have excellent communication skills, be flexible, creative, and have an ability to build collaborative relationships both within the organisation and with external partners.  You will have a passion for seizing new opportunities and making them happen. 

You will manage one team member as well as volunteers, interns and several external partnerships.  There will be plenty of opportunity to grow and develop skills on the job and you will get high level exposure to the management of Pitzhanger.
