An exciting opportunity for an innovative and experienced Head of Operations to grow Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust’s commercial business and strengthen its visitor services and operations management as we rebuild and expand post-COVID.

Pitzhanger Manor is the Grade 1 listed ‘country’ home of renowned British architect, Sir John Soane, designed and built by Soane 1800-1804 in what was then rural Ealing, West London.  Pitzhanger reopened to the public in March 2019 with an acclaimed exhibition of mirror sculptures by Anish Kapoor, following a £12m HLF and ACE-supported building project to restore Soane’s original design and upgrade the adjacent Gallery so it can stage ambitious and challenging contemporary exhibitions.  Pitzhanger had to close within a year of opening for COVID lockdown in March 2020.  Now open again and with an exciting programme of exhibitions, events and outreach, the team are rebuilding its crucial retail operations and setting ambitious visitor and commercial targets.

The Pitzhanger team is small and entrepreneurial with very high ambitions: it is passionate about developing Pitzhanger into a thriving and sustainable venue. Reporting to the Director, you will identify and deliver the optimal models to build Pitzhanger’s brand and maximise commercial revenues, including from Pitzhanger’s two cafes, shop and event-hire business – revenues that are required to support Pitzhanger’s exhibition and outreach programmes.  You will be responsible for strengthening Pitzhanger’s visitor services team to ensure the highest quality experience for all our visitors.  You will lead the team managing Pitzhanger’s historic site and buildings to ensure they can support the ambitious programme of activities whilst conserving and maintaining the building for future generations.

You will bring honed retail and customer services skills and the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to design and build new streams of income for Pitzhanger.  You will be an excellent manager able to enthuse and bring out the best from your team operating across a range of activities.  As a member of Pitzhanger’s Senior Management Team you will be flexible and collaborative, with an ability to develop Pitzhanger’s relationships with commercial partners, other institutions and community groups.
