An exciting opportunity for a talented development professional to step up to the role of Head of Development to lead the fundraising and development strategy at Sir John Soane’s Pitzhanger Manor and its contemporary art Gallery, and become a key member of the Senior Management Team.

Pitzhanger Manor is the Grade 1 listed ‘country’ home of renowned British architect, Sir John Soane, designed and built by Soane 1800-1804 in what was then rural Ealing, west London.  Pitzhanger reopened to the public in 2019 following an award-winning £12m HLF and ACE-supported conservation project to restore Soane’s original design and upgrade the adjacent Gallery so it now stages ambitious and acclaimed contemporary exhibitions ranging from Anish Kapoor and Es Devlin to Julian Opie and Rana Begum.  Alongside its exhibition programme Pitzhanger runs a varied and growing public programme of events, learning and outreach activities.

The Pitzhanger team is small and entrepreneurial with bold ambitions: it is passionate about heritage and the arts, engaging a diverse audience and developing Pitzhanger into a thriving and sustainable venue that has really positive impact within its communities.

We are looking for a talented development professional to lead Pitzhanger’s crucial fundraising strategy to support the delivery of our mission to inspire our communities with art, architecture and design.

Reporting to the Director, and working closely with the team, you will play a crucial role in building on Pitzhanger’s past successes and existing valuable relationships to create new fundraising opportunities. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable talent for designing and implementing successful fundraising initiatives to attract and retain a wide range of supporters.  The development strategy will cover fundraising from Trusts & Foundations, corporates, generous individuals, as well as lower-level, broader-reach public campaigns.  The department also manages the Patrons’ and Members’ schemes. As the role is wide-ranging we do not expect all candidates to have equal levels of experience across all areas of fundraising: we encourage applications from people with a particular strength in one area who are aiming to build on their experience in the others.

You will be inspired by the opportunity to work in a young venture where your input can make a real difference.   You will be flexible, entrepreneurial, a team player and an inspiring leader.  As a member of the Senior Management Team you will have excellent communication skills, a keen attention to detail and an ability to build collaborative relationships both within the organisation and outside.
