A Country Life highlight of the month, Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons opens at Pitzhanger on 29 July.
Taking the natural world as its central motif, Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasonsbrings a vivid new body of work to Pitzhanger. Drawn to the lingering presence of Sir John Soane, the architecture and light effects of the Manor, and the idea of a house preserved over time, Woods explores flowers, interiors and architectural details as images shaped by memory, beauty and what has gone before.
Hovering between abstraction and figuration, Woods’s paintings, collages and prints are characterised by fluid mark-making and rich colour. Among the works on view is Woolworth’s Roses, in which a vase of flowers opens onto wider histories of gardens, literature and life in uncertain times.
The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of events, including curator tours in August and September, and Clare Woods in conversation with Pitzhanger’s Director, Rebecca Lyons, in October. Members can see the exhibition first at our Members’ Morning on 29 July.

Before it closes on 19 July, discover the making behind Marthe Armitage’s hand-printed wallpapers and textiles.
Closing on Sunday 19 July, Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker offers a final opportunity to enter the handmade world of one of Britain’s most admired wallpaper and textile designers.
The exhibition traces Armitage’s process from sketches, tracings and lino blocks to hand-printed wallpapers and fabric, revealing how familiar plants, riverbanks and architectural details become immersive patterns. Seen alongside Pitzhanger’s own richly decorated interiors, it is a reminder of how closely art, craft and place can speak to one another.
Members enjoy free unlimited entry, making this the perfect moment for a final visit before the exhibition closes.Visiting

Family and Learning
Creative Summer Holiday Club leads a month of hands-on family activity at Pitzhanger this August.
Our Creative Summer Holiday Club returns from 3–7 August, offering children aged 7–11 five days of hands-on artist-led workshops inspired by nature, gardens, and Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons. From sculpture, printmaking and clay to theatre, storytelling and natural dyeing, each day offers a different way to experiment, make, and explore.
Across August, families can also enjoy Mini Makers sessions for younger children, including Messy Play on 14 and 28 August and Music and Rhyme on 21 August. PlayWorks (formerly Assemble Play) also returns from 19–21 August with three days of free, child-led outdoor play.
Family Members receive 25% off up to two full-price Holiday Club tickets and 12 free Mini Makers sessions each year.
Event
Join us on Thursday 6 August, 3–8pm, for a special summer edition of our monthly Thursday Lates.
Curated by Oitij-Jo Collective, Garden Party celebrates gardens, creativity and South Asian heritage through artist-led activity and shared cultural experiences. The programme includes drop-in Spice Painting with Maryam Huq, Floral Dyeing and Bunting Making with Rukia Begum, food stalls in the Front Garden, and after-hours access to Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons.
Visitors can also book a limited-capacity Wild Plant Walk and Tasting with Usma Shah, exploring edible and useful plants in the gardens, or sign up on the day for a curator tour of Garden Without Seasons.
All tickets for this special Thursday Late are Pay What You Can: choose £7, £5, £3, £1 or visit free of charge.
History
Discover the restored Chinese wallpaper of the Upper Drawing Room — and the craft behind one of Pitzhanger’s most atmospheric spaces.
This summer’s focus on gardens, flowers, and pattern offers a timely reason to look again at the Upper Drawing Room. Set above the Eating Room in the historic Dance wing, this elegant room brings the outside in through hand-painted Chinese wallpaper, carefully recreated as part of Pitzhanger’s major restoration.
The result is one of the Manor’s most distinctive interiors: a place where conservation, craft, and hospitality meet. Today, the Upper Drawing Room can also be hired for special occasions, from civil ceremonies and weddings to private dinners and celebrations, offering a historic backdrop with a deeply personal sense of place.
Exhibition
Following Sir Peter Blake’s 94th birthday in June, look ahead to a major exhibition opening at Pitzhanger this November.
Opening this November, Peter Blake: In the Studio celebrates one of Britain’s most influential artists and a career spanning seven decades. Bringing together paintings, sculpture, collage, and works on paper, the exhibition features at its heart an immersive recreation of Blake’s extraordinary West London studio.
From Clare Woods’s painted worlds this summer to Blake’s studio universe in the autumn, Pitzhanger’s programme continues to explore the places, objects, and images that shape artistic imagination.
Members can preview Peter Blake: In the Studio at our Members’ Morning on 25 November.

With a background in history, coming to work in a historic manor is a real treat. Over the past two years, I have had the pleasure of helping to shape Pitzhanger’s ever-evolving membership programme, giving Members unique opportunities to experience art, architecture and history up close.
A large part of my role is staying in touch with our Members and making sure they can enjoy the best of Pitzhanger, from free exhibition entry and shop and café discounts to exclusive previews and curator-led tours.
I am proud to have seen our membership grow substantially — a real testament to the team’s care, creativity and commitment to our local community and beyond. For me, the most rewarding part is knowing that so many people choose to return, explore more deeply, and be part of Pitzhanger’s story.
