From 19 March to 19 July 2026, Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery presents Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker, a focused exhibition celebrating more than seven decades of hand-drawn and hand-cut design.
Ahead of opening, Armitage has been profiled in The Sunday Times and RA Magazine, with recommendations from the Financial Times, Apollo, Country Life and The Chiswick Calendar — reflecting renewed interest in her craft at 95.
Featuring more than 40 prints, objects and archive materials — including rarely seen works on paper and original lino blocks — the exhibition traces her journey from the first lino-cut Angelica (1964) to recent works such as Chess (2023). Sketchbooks, working drawings and early proofs reveal how botanical forms and architectural influences blossom into intricate, nature-led patterns. This Spring, the artist Phoebe Collings-James (b.1987) will bring new sculpture and ceramic work to Pitzhanger, the first time these works will be shown in the UK.
