Pitzhanger Manor
A guided tour through Pitzhanger Manor offers an enriching learning experience that connects with topics across the curriculum. The tour provides a window into the mind of Sir John Soane, Pitzhanger’s architect, and highlights key features of the building’s design, its historical context, and the surrounding area.
Our Learning Team will tailor the tour to suit your class, drawing on strong links to the National Curriculum. Themes explored may include geometry, light and shadow, ancient civilisations, and the natural world.
Pitzhanger Galley
Welcome to Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden
This exhibition brings together around 46 vibrant prints, five paintings, and a selection of archive materials. Inspired by Hodgkin’s travels, the works immerse us in his unique world of colour, memory, and abstraction.
As you walk through the rooms, take time to explore each piece. Think about how different colours, shapes, and textures make you feel. Notice how Hodgkin’s patterns and brushstrokes often extend beyond the picture itself, spilling into the frame and transforming the whole surface into part of the artwork.
This is a rare opportunity to see how an artist transforms personal memories and fleeting impressions into powerful visual experiences, turning the gallery into a living canvas of moments remembered and reimagined.
Use this printable teacher resource to enrich your visit, with suggested activities and ideas to help students connect more deeply with Hodgkin’s practice.
