Celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with an interactive family dance workshop at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. Led by internationally renowned Kathak and Odissi artist Priya Pawar, this special event invites participants of all ages to experience the joy of movement through Indian classical and contemporary dance.
Part of our October Half-term activities for families, the workshop offers a chance to discover the rhythms and gestures of South Asian dance traditions while celebrating the spirit of Diwali — a festival symbolising light, joy and togetherness. No prior dance experience is required, just enthusiasm and curiosity.
Priya Pawar is a globally acclaimed Kathak and Odissi dancer, choreographer and educator with over 40 years’ experience. Trained under legendary gurus including Mohanrao Kallianpurkar and Kelucharan Mohapatra, Priya has performed across five continents and represented the Indian Council for Cultural Relations at prestigious international events.
She has performed before Queen Elizabeth II and has pioneered innovative cross-cultural projects such as Kathak Meets Flamenco. In 1994 she founded Pushpalata Dance, supporting South Asian artists trained in Britain. In 2023 she received the Sera Bengli award from United Kingdom Bengali Convention (UKBC).
Renowned for her dynamic stage presence and her ability to connect with audiences of all ages, Priya is also a passionate teacher, having guest-tutored at Aberystwyth University, Damini House of Culture in Oslo, and the Indian Art Institute in Madrid.
