A highlight of the display is a limited edition silkscreen on paper by Sir Peter Blake, the celebrated English and locally based pop artist best known for co-creating the iconic sleeve design for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Sources of Pop Art 7 ed 175 is a colourful montage featuring images from 1960s cultural icons including Elvis Presley, James Dean, Shirley Temple, Marilyn Monroe and Mickey Mouse. This rare silkscreen print has been created with high gloss, matt glazes, diamond dust and red glitter by the “Godfather of Pop Art”.
On the opening day, Saturday 14 December, visitors can also hop onboard the Peter Blake Art Bus, a mobile gallery designed by Blake himself. Decorated with vibrant pop art imagery, the bus will roll up and park at the entrance to Pitzhanger for one day only!
Other notable artists include Scottish sculptor and painter Bruce McLean, known for his bold performance art and vibrant prints, and Dan Baldwin, whose work blends abstract and figurative elements in dynamic silk screens. Printmaker Jess Wilson will also be showcasing a special Ealing themed work, exclusively made for For Arts Sake.
This is a great chance to buy an original for your home or as a special present for those hard-to-shop-for people. And to make it more accessible and easier to buy contemporary art, For Arts Sake will offer the Own Art scheme, offering interest-free credit. Visitors can spread the cost of their purchase over 10 months, making original art more accessible and affordable. This scheme is ideal for both seasoned collectors and those looking to start their own collection.
And better still, with every sale made, a proportion of the proceeds will go to funding Pitzhanger’s community projects and outreach programmes.
