How do you cope with grief and loss? 💔 Annie Morris channelled her personal pain into art, crafting the vivid ‘Stacks’ series. Coloured spheres, evoking pregnancy’s swell, tell a story of resilience and remembrance 🌈.
The vibrancy of her hues mirrors Sir John Soane’s kaleidoscopic vision for Pitzhanger Manor 🏛️. Just as Morris uses colour to convey emotion, Soane used it to astonish and delight.

Glass plays a large part in the architectural beauty of Pitzhanger Manor. The blue and amber stained glass that is featured throughout the house, creates beautiful pools of coloured light on sunny days ☀
Sir John Soane was fascinated by architectural illusion and used glass to create ingenious elements of optical deception. In the Library, for example, Soane placed reflective glass panels opposite one another to create infinity mirrors; arranged as a parallel series, reflections appear to recede forever, making the room appear much larger than it is in reality.
With the sun returning again next week, why not come and see for yourself?

📚 Experience the unique and special space of Soane`s Library at Pitzhanger Manor. The flowing layout and use of light create a remarkable atmosphere, with double doors on three sides that allow light to penetrate through the conservatory. The innovative use of mirrors amplifies this light, creating fragmented views and angles that dissolve the basic cube into openings and reflections. You`ll be amazed at how much larger the space feels! The original mirrors still exist in the room, adding to its impressive history. The grained walls, painted canopy ceiling, and delicate trellis threaded with foliage complete the airy and summery effect.
