MAIN GALLERY CLOSURE & JULY FILMING UPDATE

The main gallery is currently closed for exhibition changeover. Pitzhanger Manor and Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker remain open, with discounted admission available.

On 8–19 July, further closures will be in place due to filming activity. During this period, the main gallery, café, shop, Monk’s Dining Room and Wonder Room will be closed. Discounted admission will remain available for access to the open areas of Pitzhanger Manor, including Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker.

Visitors requiring step-free access to the Manor on 8–19 July will need to enter and exit via the Eating Room door from the Front Garden. The accessible toilet in the main gallery will not be available; the nearest accessible toilet is at the Rickyard in Walpole Park, near the playground.

Exclusive Member’s Preview of Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden

Overview

We are delighted to invite our members to an exclusive preview of Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden — the largest institutional exhibition of original prints by the acclaimed British artist to date. Curated by renowned art historian Richard Calvocoressi, this landmark show features around 60 vibrant, emotionally charged prints and paintings that span five decades of Hodgkin’s career, from 1966 to 2016.

Installed throughout Pitzhanger’s contemporary gallery and the atmospheric rooms of the historic Manor itself, this retrospective-in-print immerses visitors in Hodgkin’s world of colour, memory, and abstraction. His bold, gestural works — full of nuance and feeling — transform the building into a living canvas of moments remembered and reimagined. This will be Pitzhanger’s largest ever exhibition and a celebration of Soane and Hodgkin’s shared passion for space, light and colour.

The exhibition will be open exclusively to members on Tuesday 30th September, 10am -2pm, before it opens to the general public, with a unique opportunity to hear our curators talking about the exhibition throughout.

The Pitzhanger Shop will be open and refreshments will be available.

Important Information:

Entry to the Members’ Preview is free but ticketed so please ensure you have booked your place. Spaces are limited.
