Overview

We are delighted to invite our members to a Members’ Morning preview of our two Spring exhibitions, Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker and Phoebe Collings-James: a rose, a bridge, a house. This unique event grants Members of Pitzhanger exclusive access to the exhibitions before they open to the general public, and outside of public opening hours.

Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker explores Armitage’s distinctive approach to pattern making in wallpaper and fabric design. The child of Dutch parents, Marthe is renowned for her hand-drawn, hand-printed patterns created in her Chiswick studio. Now aged 95, she is one of Britain’s most beloved designers and is celebrated for the intricate and imaginative detail that still imbues her work, and the expert craftmanship of her practice.

Phoebe Collings-James: a rose, a bridge, a house features sculpture and clay paintings in the main galleries and through into rooms in Sir John Soane’s former home. The Jamaican British artist’s work includes shifts in tone and finish, featuring a rich array of markings and textures, exploring language, material and resistance through clay. These works offer visitors the opportunity to encounter one of the most exciting young artists working with ceramics today.

The Pitzhanger Café and Shop will be open from 10am, so why not bring a friend and make the most of our beautiful setting with a coffee or a bite to eat.

Entry to this event is free for members. This is a ticketed event so please ensure you have booked your space. Spaces are limited.
