Overview
Celebrate Holi — the Festival of Colour, Love and Spring — with a joyful, hands-on sari workshop led by local artist Nidhi Uppal. Taking place in Soane’s Garden Room, this session is inspired both by Holi’s traditions of colour and renewal and by the vibrant palette and garden imagery in Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden, creating a dialogue between festival, fabric and art.
Open to everyone, the workshop invites participants to build confidence, play with drape, and style their own sari using a range of beautiful textiles. Drawing on the sari’s long history as a fluid and versatile garment, Nidhi will share her perspectives and history and insights into its cultural significance and how her own practice has been shaped by her mother’s personal collection and The Offbeat Sari exhibition at the Design Museum in 2023. Come and explore how the sari can be both part of tradition and contemporary fashion, whilst being part of a collective celebration of colour.
Families, adults and young people are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult throughout the workshop. All materials are provided, and you’re also encouraged to bring your own sari if you have one.
