What Our Volunteers Say

“Volunteering at Pitzhanger has enabled me to work on my social skills while also enriching my understanding of London’s history. It has also boosted my public engagement abilities whilst learning of how to lead guided tours and surveys with different visitors. The most memorable moment for me was greeting a big group of international tourists at the main entrance of the manor.”

Armand, volunteer since 2024

“I’ve been a volunteer at Pitzhanger Manor for over five years. It’s been a stimulating and rewarding time. I’ve always been fascinated by Sir John Soane and have been inspired to do further research into his life. I’ve broadened my knowledge of the arts in the 18th and early 19th centuries. I particularly enjoy the contemporary art exhibitions. It’s exciting to meet the artists, and following their careers has been inspiring. I’ve met so many interesting visitors and have made new friends among the volunteers. It’s great to be a member of the Pitzhanger team and to feel valued.”

Helen, volunteer since 2019

“Volunteering at Pitzhanger Manor since the completion of its magnificent restoration in 2019, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute the local community by supporting the Manor, gardening and conducting tour. I’ve learned a lot about both gardening and the history of the manor and Sir John Soane, which I’ve applied to personal use and shared with our many visitors, from the general public to aspiring architects. As volunteers, we are invited to exchange tours, such as Turner’s House, Kew Gardens and many others. I enjoy the social interaction with the other volunteers and walking in the footsteps of a great architect and the artist J W Turner is inspiring. I’m proud to be part of the Pitzhanger team.”

Paul, volunteer since 2019
