Come and make art with us during the Summer half term holiday! This drop-in sculpture workshop for families is suitable for all ages and abilities.
Join artist Tamira Kitchens in a FREE drop-in art workshop for families and people of all ages and abilities at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. Whether your family is full of seasoned artists looking to practice their technique or aspiring creatives looking to try something new, come to create and be inspired by the amazing sculptures of Anthony Caro.
When architects design a building they have to make sure it is ready for any sudden changes to its environment. We will be building sculptures inspired by Anthony Caro and then seeing what happens when we change their environment – for example, what happens if your sculpture is hit with a sudden gust of wind, if the surface it is built on starts to shake, or if it gets wet in the rain?
We can document the journey of our sculptures by drawing sketches and taking photographs of them as they grow and change; this will help us to see which changes we liked and which we didn’t – maybe an unexpected change will give you a new design idea that you wouldn’t have thought of before! This will be a hands-on workshop where we follow the architectural process of model making and testing designs, but at the same time are inspired by Anthony Caro’s experimental and creative design process of building pieces of art from found objects.
I’m Tamira, I’m an artist and architecture student in London, and I’m interested in the intersection between technology, art, and people. I believe that we can use design to help improve people’s lives, whether that is on an individual scale – by using creativity to relieve stress, form ideas, and as a social activity – or on a much larger scale, by designing cities and artwork which benefit members of a society in the long term. Over the past year I have been working with a charity in Tottenham which provides mentoring to care-affected girls; this has strengthened my aspirations to continue to work with young people and inspire creative thinking, as I have seen first hand how it can have such a positive impact on young peoples’ lives!
