Curator’s Talk — Svetlana Panova on ‘Alice Irwin: Chinwag’

Overview

Join us for a glass of wine and a special late-night opening of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery’s new exhibition — Alice Irwin: Chinwag. We will be joined by exhibition curator Svetlana Panova, who will explore the exhibition with us, elucidating the stories that are woven through it.

Over the past three years, Irwin has created a new series characterised by vibrant colours and animated forms. These artworks invite viewers into a realm of youthful creativity, blurring the lines between print, sculpture, and drawing. Panova will reflect on how Irwin explores themes of playfulness and experimentation in her prints and sculpture and what it means to curate an artist’s first major exhibition in a London-based public gallery.

Panova will also explore Irwin’s interest in themes of social interaction and the human experience and how this forms a parallel narrative with Sir John Soane’s life, and the historic setting of Soane’s neo-classical architecture.

She currently works for Outer Spaces, an arts charity that supports artists from a broad range of disciplines with free studio, exhibition and project space, and freelances on visual arts projects in Scotland and the UK.
