Join us for an engaging evening to explore the labyrinthine intricacies of Child’s Tower Room (1983-84) with Michael Regan, its commissioner. Delve into the world of this remarkable sculpture on display at our Anthony Caro: The Inspiration of Architecture exhibition. This extraordinary work melds the realms of sculpture and architecture with its enchanting spiral steps and hidden chambers.
Child’s Tower Room came into existence when Michael Regan, whilst working as a curator for the Arts Council of Great Britain, envisioned an exhibition in the form of four rooms, each designed by a leading British artist. Anthony Caro, one of the artists invited by Regan, embraced this unique challenge. Thus Child’s Tower Room was born. The debut of this masterpiece in 1984 was not in a traditional gallery setting but in the iconic department store Liberty’s in London, provoking an exciting buzz in the art press and capturing public fascination.
Regan’s impressive career spans nearly 50 years, during which he has worked with prominent public institutions across the UK, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, The Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, The Arts Council of Great Britain, Hayward Gallery and Regional Touring, Canada House, London, and others. Currently, he serves as the Associate Curator of The Lightbox, Woking.
