Drawing on the woven tapestries in the exhibition, Pitzhanger has teamed up with the Ealing Repair Café, and we invite you to come with your mending pile of clothes for advice and guidance. Ealing Repair Café volunteers will be on hand to teach you how to repair your clothes and will bring along their sewing machine so you can try out alterations and mending seams.
The Ealing Repair Café was established to teach people how to repair their clothes using patching or darning techniques rather than discarding them. This initiative is a step towards creating a circular economy for clothes and moving away from fast-disposable fashion. The Repair Café is a proud part of the Ealing Transition Initiative, inspiring us all to make a positive impact on sustainability.
Artist Matt Small will talk about his exhibition This Is England, which was created to depict the full England squad and manager of the EURO 2020 England football team—a group of players from a diverse set of backgrounds who made history with their sporting achievement and their ability to engage and inspire the nation. Commissioned by the Football Association, all portraits were exhibited at the St George’s Park training ground during the EURO 2020 finals in the summer of 2021 and were later exhibited at Pitzhanger.
In addition, join curator Joanna Bird for a guided tour of A Fine Line: Modern Makers at Pitzhanger. Hear how each of the exhibition’s artists, including Emmanuel Boos, Joseph Harrington, and Prue Cooper, along with other makers working across ceramics and glass, utilize their chosen materials to create objects of rigour and beauty. Learn how these have been placed in the context of Soane’s manor to uncover connections across craft, design, and history.
Our café partner, Bella Puglia, will serve a range of delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks all evening, and exhibitions across the manor will be open until 8pm.
Thursday Lates, our monthly evening event series every first Thursday, offers a diverse roster of programs from artist talks to workshops. Open to everyone seeking enriching after-work experiences, these events vary from ticketed to free. Coinciding with our free visiting hours for Ealing residents, Thursday Lates is your chance to explore the manor and its exhibitions without the usual general admission fee.
