Pitzhanger Manor

A guided tour through Pitzhanger Manor offers an enriching learning experience that connects with topics across the curriculum. The tour provides a window into the mind of Sir John Soane, Pitzhanger’s architect, and highlights key features of the building’s design, its historical context, and the surrounding area.

Our Learning Team will tailor the tour to suit your class, drawing on strong links to the National Curriculum. Themes explored may include geometry, light and shadow, ancient civilisations, and the natural world.

CURRENT EXHIBITIONS:

5 March – 15 June 2025 | Alison Watt: From Light

This exhibition presents 18 breathtakingly realistic new still-life  paintings by Alison Watt and offers great links to your Art & Design teaching unit. Inspired by Sir John Soane, Watt explores the role of light and shadow in shaping space and atmosphere.

Her works draw from historical painting and Soane’s personal collection, including a striking series of rose paintings and interpretations of Oliver Cromwell’s death mask. Watt also brings objects from her own studio, offering insight into the inspirations behind her art.

We provide each student with a worksheet to enrich their visit and engage more deeply with the artist’s work. Please have a look below and let us know if you’d like the students to complete the worksheet during their visit, so our team can have it ready in advance:
