Two leading artists explore nature, pattern and still life.
In 2026, Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery will explore themes that delighted and preoccupied Sir John Soane with two major exhibitions, each bringing a distinct interpretation of nature to the historic Manor.

Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker (19 March–19 July 2026) celebrates Armitage’s distinctive approach to wallpaper and fabric design. Renowned for her hand-drawn, hand-printed patterns created in her Chiswick studio, Armitage — now aged 95 — is celebrated for the intricate and imaginative detail that imbues her work. The exhibition traces her artistic process, from sketches and lino blocks to completed wallpapers and textiles, revealing designs rooted in the landscapes and architectural details of her surroundings.
In summer, Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons (29 July–8 November 2026) will unfold throughout the Manor and Gallery. Woods’ paintings, collages and prints hover between abstraction and figuration, defined by fluid mark-making and vibrant colours. Inspired by glasshouses, still-life and the passage of time, her new works respond to Pitzhanger’s interiors, stained-glass windows and parkland setting, inviting viewers to reflect the fleeting nature of life.

Our Team
On exhibitions, creative process and what inspires her.

As Exhibitions Manager, I look after all aspects of exhibition delivery at Pitzhanger — from the seed of an idea and early conversations with an artist or lender, to developing a project and overseeing its installation in the Manor or Gallery.
I live locally, so the chance to help shape a rich and diverse exhibitions programme in such a unique space, right on my doorstep, really appealed. Nothing compares to the moment when an exhibition that you’ve been working on for so long finally arrives and artworks are unwrapped — a mix of simmering excitement and slight trepidation, a little like unwrapping a present.
I’m especially excited to share the work of Marthe Armitage, whose hand-drawn, hand-printed designs hold such care and imagination. And in the summer, Clare Woods’ gorgeous and glorious paintings will fill Pitzhanger — a perfect moment to explore ideas around beauty, the garden, and the transience of life.

Exhibition
A winter escape with colour and warmth.

As the temperature drops and London’s skies turn grey, Pitzhanger offers a bright, welcoming refuge. Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden fills the gallery with vivid colour and sweeping brushwork — a joyful contrast to winter’s chill.
The exhibition has just been praised in The World of Interiors, which describes it as “a revelatory show” that unites “two masters” — Hodgkin and Soane — in an extraordinary dialogue of colour, light and architecture.
Many visitors tell us how restorative it feels to wander through bold contemporary art and the quiet elegance of the Manor at this time of year. We are open 10am–5pm, with seasonal closures on 22–26 December, 29–30 December and 1 January.

Venue Hire
Stories, gratitude and a year ahead.

We feel deeply privileged to have hosted so many joyful occasions this year. “The venue is so beautiful… the perfect mix of Sir John Soane’s quirky interiors and modern touches,” shared Alex and Helen, while Laura and Tom told us how the Eating Room “met the emotions of the day” and how supported they felt throughout.
Their words reflect what makes Pitzhanger such a special place to celebrate — characterful rooms, gardens full of charm, and a team that cares. Our Exclusively Yours package remains a favourite for couples wanting the full estate for a day of ceremony, photographs, dining and dancing.
With Valentine’s Day in sight, many couples are beginning their planning. We look forward to welcoming visitors to our Wedding Open Day on 14 March 2026.
