This Autumn, Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery presents an exhibition by British contemporary artist couple, Idris Khan and Annie Morris. Exploring emotion, time, and memory, the exhibition engages in a poignant dialogue with the Manor’s neo-classical architecture, designed by Sir John Soane.

Showcasing over forty works that span from the Gallery into the historic Manor, the exhibition encapsulates a diverse range of art forms from sculpture and photography to painting and embroidery. Morris’ arresting Stack sculptures stand as a vivid testament to personal loss and the resilience of the human spirit, each irregularly shaped sphere bursting with colour. Khan’s works explore the intricacies of cultural memory and personal history through abstract forms.

Morris’ vibrant use of colour has inspired Khan to experiment with a more colourful palette, revealing the subtle but influential ways their individual practices have come to inspire one another.

The Upper Drawing Room of Pitzhanger Manor is home to a beautifully detailed wallpaper design. Soane originally gifted his wife, Eliza, this bespoke wallpaper which was inspired by hand-painted Chinese artwork. After the major restoration project which saw Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery reopen to the public in 2019, the wallpaper was restored to its former glory through a lengthy process of hand painting details such as these affectionate birds.

Visit Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery and see what other details you can spot in this incredibly intricate design 🦋

📽️🎬Join us for a special screening of Abbas by Abbas, a documentary revealing the story behind the legendary Magnum photographer Abbas Attar – better known by his mononym Abbas – completed days before his death. 📽️🎬

Pitzhanger Late: ‘Abbas by Abbas’ Magnum Documentary Screening

Abbas’ photographs depict war, revolution and religious fanaticism; he went to the scene of many great events that changed the world from the 1970s to today. The late Franco-Iranian photographer discusses his work, on camera for the first time, over ten days in the Magnum Photos office in Paris. Filmmaker Kamy Pakdel has produced a portrait of an observer of our world, sharing the last words of a great photographer of our time, a few days before disappearing.

Abbas photographs as philosophers write. He doesn’t draw any conclusions; he doesn’t impose his point of view.

Kamy Pakdel, Director & Writer
Screened alongside Pitzhanger’s current exhibition, Magnum Photos: Where Ideas Are Born, which features photographs taken by Abbas, this is a unique opportunity to hear more about the life and work of one of the most influential photojournalists ever.

54 min. English subtitles.
