About Sinta Tantra
Sinta Tantra is a British artist of Balinese descent. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London between 1999–2003 and later continued her studies in art at the Royal Academy Schools in London. Tantra describes herself as a painter working on an architectural scale. By using abstract geometric style, exploring colour, identity, and narratives, she questions the function of spaces in her work. Tantra’s compositions explore themes of light, wealth, and the duality of beauty and colonialism. Gold, central to her exhibition, symbolises energy, vanity, and extraction, highlighting Tantra’s fascination with its historical and cultural significance.
Sinta Tantra: The Lightclub of Batavia not only complements the historical context of Pitzhanger but also injects a contemporary vibrancy, redefining the viewer’s perception of space and history. Included in this exhibition are six new works from her miniature painting series, whose geometric compositions resonate with Soane’s design of Pitzhanger Manor’s Library
