Please note that our art workshops and storytelling sessions are drop-in events and are not intended to be registered art classes. These sessions tend to be very busy at the beginning, so arriving later on will result in less crowding.
Come on a journey with Usifu! Sing, dance, play and not only hear, but be part of the story.
Born in Kamakwie, Sierra Leone, Usifu is an energetic, funny, and deeply inspiring storytelling performer. His roots in multicultural Sierra Leone, and his long-standing and close association with artists and audiences from a wide range of cultures, has led him to develop a storytelling style which encompasses international languages, music, dance and story themes.
Performances:
A bouquet that never wilts! Use crayons and watercolour to create a textured paper that will become the beautiful petals of your papercraft flower.
Caro used wood and plastic in innovative, unusual ways. What kind of sculpture would you like to make with similar materials? This workshop with artist Amy Leung will experiment with open ended playful assemblage and will encourage creative thinking in repurposing scraps of materials and combining them to create something new.
In this session with artist Emily Hopkins, learn how to make a paper pulp seed bomb to take away with you. Create something naturally beautiful that you can give to your friends, family or plant in a local garden.
Anthony Caro spent a lot of time searching for sculptural materials in places you might not expect, like scrap yards or industrial sites, which means that sometimes you might recognise some objects in his sculptures; tubes, girders or mesh. In some of his sculptures he ended up incorporating items from his studio such as tools. In this workshop we’ll explore how we can create sculptures from familiar, recycled and found materials with artist educator Emily Hopkins.
