STEP-FREE ACCESS TEMPORARILY RESTRICTED

Please note that the lift at Pitzhanger Manor is currently out of order until further notice following a safety inspection.

The Manor and exhibitions remain open as usual, and all floors continue to be accessible via stairs. However, visitors who require step-free access will currently only be able to access the lower ground level (via the Colonnade), the Wonder Room, and the Monk’s Dining Room.

Pitzhanger Gallery remains fully accessible, with lift access functioning as usual.

We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologise for the inconvenience caused.

For access enquiries, please contact foh@pitzhanger.org.uk before your visit.

Make a paper flower corsage for Mothers’ Day.

Make a paper flower corsage for Mothers’ Day.

Watch our animation and use paper, tape, scissors and pipe cleaners to make a mini springtime bouquet for someone you love. You can wear it or even put it in a little vase.

This activity is for all ages. You may want to pre-cut materials or buy pre-cut materials for little people. You will make individual flowers and then twist them together to make your bouquet.

It will take you about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how detailed you make your flowers.

Materials:

  1. Tape (any will do even masking tape which you can colour with a marker when you’re finished)
  2. Scissors
  3. Wire (if you have some)
  4. Safety pins or broach pins
  5. A stapler comes in handy
  6. Pipe cleaners
  7. Glue stick
  8. Ribbon
  9. If you have one, a glue gun
  10. Different paper. It can be recycled from other projects, tissue paper, crepe paper, newspaper, sugar paper, card, old envelopes, etc.

Method:

  1. Daffodil: pick your colours, cut circles out and fold them. Trim to make little pom poms. Layer and twist the back together fixing the back of your flower with pipe cleaner
  2. Draw six petals on paper and cut out. Pinch tissue paper to make the inner part. Staple in. Cut out leaves to add depth.
  3. Use tissue paper to cut out a six petal flower. Add a frill using a firmer card trimmed with frills. You can even use your pencil to curl the paper.
  4. For variety, make some roses with different coloured tissue paper. Wrap tissue strips around in layers, pinching and folding. Pinch the base and fix with a pipe cleaner. Add a detail leaf.
  5. Combine your bouquet, twisting the pipe cleaners together. Use tape to bind the stems.
  6. Add ribbon for detail and bounce.
  7. Affix a safety pin or broach pin with tape on the back of the stem.
  8. Have fun! Invent new flowers, using recycled paper and at-home materials to recreate the shapes of our natural world.
